aka Sharon "Sam" Sakai-Miller
Take my technology, curriculum, and business experience “to go” and put them to work for you! (See the MTG Animated GIF or Flash movie)
Consultant, MentorToGo Vision Planning Partner
My mission is to help educators and students to become Total Communicators who can use the power of technology to effectively tap vast resources available to them, organize and express their thoughts, and share them with appropriate audiences. To this end I work directly with Districts and schools to provide ongoing professional development workshops, starting with a needs assessment to gauge experience and interest levels. I provide professional development workshops for Counties and educational technology conferences as an independent consultant. Additionally, I provide workshops to support educational resources such as videos on-demand and student response systems.
Self-Published Author, MentorToGo Technology Literacy Kit
The MentorToGo Technology Literacy Kit is a resource for teachers, tech leaders, and administrators to make technology an indispensable tool for Total Communication. The four-volume set addresses all CTAP2 Technology Proficiency categories through projects and productivity tips for educators, and includes Teachers' Specials in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science.
Technology Specialist, Contra Costa County Office of Education
As technology specialist in charge of professional development and working as part of the Technology Systems Department, I helped to substantially increase the participation in the Professional Development classes, increase the number of workshops done at school sites, reconfigure the multimedia lab, increase services provided by ETAC (Educational Technology Advisory Council), and bring in new grant money and resources to teachers in the County. The secret? Planning from a teacher's perspective--scheduling classes after school, offering a variety of classes for a range of computer interests and experience, offering college credit for as many classes as possible, and never canceling any classes.
Curriculum Tech Mentor, Walnut Creek Intermediate School
I know what it's like to be on the "bleeding edge" and to work in a tech mentor's capacity while teaching full time. I had the opportunity to collaborate with the best teachers in the four core curriculum areas to create technology-supported lessons that were published on the school web site. With parent and community support we were able to qualify for AB1339 Technology Professional Development grant funds starting in 1999.
Classroom Teacher, Walnut Creek School District
Over ten years of experience in the classroom teaching elementary school and middle school math, computers, and video yearbook. Being both a teacher and a parent , I know how hard teachers work and what the community expects.
Lead Teacher, “Clementine in CyberSpace” CD-ROM Project, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory
While organizing and scripting (not programming) the “Clementine in CyberSpace” CD-ROM for Education, I learned a great deal about computers and physics. The learning curve was steep, but I came away with strong foundation of computer skills and an appreciation for what technology can do for education.
Advertising Account Executive, various agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area and Honolulu
My first love was advertising. That's where I get the "knack" for marketing and the demographics-based planning approach. I have worked on major accounts as the McDonald's Restaurants, Red Carpet Real Estate, and Outer Bay Area Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers.
